Peak Performance and Longevity Training Made Simple
Feb 10, 2021Make no mistake, reaching peak physical performance requires practice, refining and consistency.
The straightest path to living in a strong functional and pain free body starts by nailing down these 4 steps in sequential order.
Step 1: ASSESS
Peak performance and longevity based training requires attention to detail. This holds true regardless of whether you're a performance professional assessing someone else or maybe just an active person assessing your self. The information gathered through the assessment process can be the single most important factor to finding an individuals unique starting point, and creating intelligent training routine.
Things to assess or learn how to assess:
- Foundational movement patterns
- Joint mobility and restrictions
- Muscle activation patterns
Just to name a few... if your goal is peak performance and longevity. The assessment should be based on your goals.
2. IMPROVE MOVEMENT CAPACITY (Stability and Mobility)
Before you can begin loading tissues of the body we need to identify and correct movement restrictions. These restrictions can be tissue restrictions or stability deficits.
'We never want to strengthen a dysfunction."
We can continue to incorporate exercises to improve these specific areas by adding them into warm up and recovery routines.
3. LOAD and STRENGTHEN
This is often where individuals get extremely mislead. Loading and strengthening movement patterns can provide the best bang for your buck when it comes to building a resilient body that performs at it highest level possible.
Simply put the stronger you are, the most load your tissues can tolerate, the less likely you are at becoming injured.
When it comes to loading, we suggest including the progressive mastery of the 5 foundational movement patterns:
SQUAT
LUNGE
HIP HINGE
PUSH
PULL
4. REPEAT
We must constantly be revisiting the basics. The Re-assessment is just as important as the assessment to determine if we are moving in the right direction towards are goals.
If you're a performance professional working with clients or an active person in any capacity and you're not doing these things... Stop. And consider how far you might be straying away from achieving your goals or helping someone else achieve theirs.
Share this with someone and let's help each other cut through the B.S. and start moving and feeling better!
